The Retailer of The Year is IHFRA’s highest honor given within the retail home furnishings community, recognizing an individual or organization that has demonstrated industry leadership, business achievement and service to the community.
“Anyone even remotely familiar with City Furniture knows that this retailer continually raises the bar and leads the pack in areas including customer experience and green initiatives to everything in between,” said Ray Allegrezza, executive director, IHFRA.
Koenig, who began his full-time career with City in 2006, learned the business from the ground floor, working his way up in almost every division of the company.
Before joining City Furniture, Koenig, who earned his MBA in Entrepreneurship from Nova Southeastern University—Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship - studied Lean Philosophy at Toyota’s headquarters in Japan and introduced lean thinking to City in 2007. The company has been on a lean journey ever since, which has also fostered a culture of mutual trust and respect, teamwork and a deep sense of urgency to continuously improve.
Under Koenig’s leadership, City has seen a myriad of major breakthroughs in turnover reduction, operational process improvement, customer experience, safety, associate satisfaction, strategic planning, financial success and much more.
“In my opinion, Andrew Koenig and other young leaders that share his vision represent the future of our industry and IHFRA is proud to recognize Andrew and City Furniture with our Retailer of The Year Award,” Allegrezza concluded.
