HFA Celebrates 100 Years

Celebrating its 100th anniversary, the Home Furnishings Association (HFA) has launched its second century with new initiatives and a recommitment to its founding mission.

The association was launched in 1920 by retailers for retailers who wanted to cooperate in purchasing and combine their voices for advocacy in government. With more than 1,400 members operating more than 7,000 storefronts, the Home Furnishings Association now helps furniture retailers meet their needs for financial services, marketing, logistics, insurance, human resources and many other challenges.

As part of its 100 Years – A Century Moving Forward celebration, the Home Furnishings Association will introduce programs in innovation, education and leadership. It has begun with an effort to create an Association Health Plan, which would allow members to collectively provide comprehensive, affordable medical coverage for their employees. The association’s enduring value is the desire of its members to support each other and strengthen the furniture industry.

“We want to show our immense gratitude to our dedicated members for an incredible 100 Years,” said Shannon Williams, vice president of performance and strategy. “An association is effective when its members are dedicated to their mutual success. Home Furnishings Association members are always willing to share best practices and find solutions to the challenges of today and tomorrow. Together, we intend to reshape furniture retail for generations to come. Our 2020 initiatives, including programs in health care and higher education, respond directly to needs expressed by members and will position them for future success.”

“We invite all our members, and prospective members, to join us in celebrating our anniversary,” Williams added. “And what’s a celebration without prizes? Throughout the year, retailers can learn more about our new vision and win one of 100 special prizes and promotions.”

Starting at Las Vegas Market, retailers can find game entries in participating vendor showrooms, including Ashley Furniture (B-1500), redeemable at the Home Furnishings Association’s Resource Center (B-1050) for a chance to win one of 25 valuable prizes. By posting a picture on Instagram with one of the 100 Year displays, retailers can get a second chance to play and win.

Participation is open to all furniture retailers. Special prizes and promotions will also be available online for those who are not able to attend the furniture markets.

In the coming weeks, more 100 Year celebration events and developments will be announced. For more information, entry rules, and to sign up for online participation, visit www.myhfa.org/100.
