The Contemporary Design Group announced the winner of the 2019 Edward Haimsohn Design Award at their Annual Conference this week. Top prize went to Reflex S.p.a., for the Esse 72 Table designed by Tulcinski. Originally introduced at Salone del Mobile Milano in 2019, the Esse combines fluid and sculptural lines. The design features a unique “S” shaped glass base; the product name is Italian for the letter “S”.
First runner up was the Phoenix seating designed by the Koinor Design Team for Koinor by Planum Furniture. Second runner up went to Trica for the Edge Mirror designed by Francois Caron and Philippe Beland. Two products tied for third runner up, the Clessidra table, designed by Paolo Vernier for Midj and the Cantina Bar Cabinet Designed by Glassismo, directed by Hans and Hein Wulfurt.
“It was an honor to help present this year’s award, “says CDG retailer member Sarah Paxton, from LaDiff in Richmond, VA. “We were thrilled to see that we received entries from twelve different countries.”
The Edward Haimsohn Design award recognizes manufacturers producing outstanding and original furniture designs. A panel of anonymous judges, consisting of CDG retailer members, evaluated nominees on originality, creativity, consumer appeal, use of materials, functionality, and manufacturing execution. “Our organization and our members pay a lot of attention to great design,” says Howard Haimsohn, CDG President and owner of Lawrance Furniture in San Diego, CA. “It was a pleasure to see so many deserving entries.”
The thirteen finalists were: Code media cabinet by BDI; Margo storage cabinet by BDI; Graphic sideboard by Ethnicraft; Karl seating by Gamma; Cantina bar cabinet by Glassisimo; Copperfield seating by Himolla; Phoenix seating by Koinor; Virtuose mattress by Literie Laurier; Clessidra table by Midj; Ettore table by Pianca; Esse 72 table by Reflex; Slice seating by Thayer Coggin; and Edge mirror by Trica. A lookbook of all entries, is available now on the Contemporary Design Group website.
