IMC’s Fall Trendwatch: Animalier, Drenching and Focus

International Market Centers’ (IMC) TrendWatch program for Fall 2019 will feature over 100 products from 60 exhibitors at Fall High Point Market, Oct. 19- 23, 2019. Fall Market’s three directional trends are; Animalier, Drenching and Focus.

“IMC’s signature TrendWatch program is a key source of trend information for furniture and home décor buyers and suppliers,” said Dorothy Belshaw, executive vice president, chief marketing and digital officer for IMC. “TrendWatch highlights the diversity of product at High Point Market and provides attendees with insight on trends that can influence sales and consumer preferences.”

TrendWatch is curated by 23-year magazine editor and home furnishings forecaster Julie Smith Vincenti of Nine Muses Media. The trends are influenced by consumer insights and creative intelligence from the interiors, fashion and consumer product arenas.

ANIMALIER

Animals have been subject matter for painters, illustrators, textile designers and sculptors throughout the centuries, and the “animalier” was known for realistic portrayals. This season, TrendWatch crosses artistry and classical design with a mysterious, colorful jungle landscape for Animalier. Product selections include: Alessandra sofa from James by Jimmy DeLaurentis; “Hermes Serpent” wall decor by Stephen Wilson Studio; Palm area rug by Zuiver; Walter Lamb Collection rocking chair by Brown Jordan; and Vapor chandelier by Jamie Young Co.

DRENCHING

Neutrals may reign, but color confidence is always on the rise. Take color-blocking and color drenching, which are proving to be even more compelling in home furnishings. These decorative techniques are especially suited to modestly scaled interiors, which add to their appeal and longevity. Meet drenching, a crash course on sophistication and easy elegance. Product selections include: Morgan credenza by Selamat Desgin; Paillette chandelier by Bliss Studio; Hayden lacquer coffee table by HAD Collection by Heather Ashton Design; assorted wall mirrors by etúHOME; and Lexi pillow by Surya.

FOCUS

Serenity, wellness, well-being and mindfulness - the pursuit of calm, clarity and contentment can be a journey. TrendWatch’s exploration of the process, Focus, looks at color, material and nature as a mindset, all against a backdrop of serene, yet powerful, colors. Product selections include: Monterey sofa by Bernhardt; hide-and-linen pillows by Cloud 9; Golden Age wallpaper by Stanton Gray; Agate platter from Abigails; and Lois Selenite Crystal pendant by Bradley.

“This season’s TrendWatch program pinpoints color, pattern and finishing trends that are future-focused, yet also mindful of past themes,” explains Smith Vincenti. “Animalier is exciting, as it builds on both tropical and maximalist trends; Focus conveys luxury while centering on wellness; and Drenching makes a bold color statement inspired by modern art, runway trends, and more generally, consumer confidence.”

The products, which are selected by Smith Vincenti from IMC High Point Market exhibitors, will be featured in three vignettes, a trend presentation and an at-Market publication. Vignettes will be located in the walkway between IHFC and Showplace near the transportation terminal, in the IHFC Green Lobby and in the Suites at Market Square lobby. The TrendWatch: Fall 2019 seminar will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, in the Suites at Market Square Seminar Room (SAMS-T-1014); and printed copies of the publication will be available at the opening day seminar and digitally via a QR code scannable at each of the displays.
