Aico President Kicks Off City of Hope Fundraiser

Casegoods and upholstery resource Amini Innovation Corp (Aico) has announced the kick off of City of Hope’s Walk for Hope fundraiser by Aico President Martin Ploy on Sept. 5. Ploy urged people to raise $1.4 million to support research efforts to cure women’s cancers.

Last year Ploy and his team, Aico All-Stars, raised more than $40,000. At the fundraising kickoff breakfast, an Aico All-Stars team member, Patrick Cory and his wife Chunji, were so moved by City of Hope patient Kandace McMenomy’s breast cancer story that they – on behalf of the Cory Family & JB Hunt – pledged to donate $5,000.

Also on behalf of the Cory Family & JB Hunt, Cory said he would match any donations made at the breakfast – up to $5,000. Ploy applauded the generous contribution and urged others to donate and recruit team members for the walk.

The annual 2K/5K Walk for Hope will take place at City of Hope in Duarte, Calif. on Nov. 3. The family-friendly event is held on campus, where breakthrough research is conducted and where lifesaving treatment is delivered. More than 10,000 people – cancer patients and survivors, family and friends, physicians, nurses, researchers and City of Hope staff – are expected to participate.

“We’re walking to help raise money for the ongoing fight against women’s cancers,” Ploy said to an audience of about 130 people. “Aico is a very, very important supporter of City of Hope. This is a special place.”

In the past 22 years, the Walk for Hope has raised $37 million for research, treatment and education for City of Hope’s Women’s Cancers Program.

City of Hope physicians and scientists are developing new ways to offer targeted cancer treatments that have fewer and milder side effects. They are investigating disparities in cancer incidence among Latina women and examining the ways women can reduce their cancer risk through lifestyle choices.
