HSM, an integrated manufacturer serving the home furnishings industry, has introduced a new dedicated website that traces the company’s journey from a small producer of coiled springs and wire for mattresses and furniture to its status today as a global supplier of components for multiple industries.
The Hickory, N.C.-headquartered privately-owned company has served the home furnishings industry since 1944. The new website chronicles its rich history – and provides a glimpse of its impact on the home furnishings business.
The new website also illustrates how the home furnishings industry has evolved to respond to shifts in consumer preference and emerging global competition over time.
The site, www.hsm75th.com, features photos from the company’s archives, a visual timeline of historic milestones, and several key issues of its employee newsletter, Hi-Co News, which have never been publicly released.
The four newsletters feature articles published in celebration of the company’s 30th, 50th and 60th anniversaries in 1973, 1994 and 2004. A special edition from 1981 will also be released, in memory of Parks C. Underdown, founder of Hickory Springs.
Some of HSM’s growth can be attributed to the many acquisitions the company has made since the 1980s, including Spiller Spring Co., Holland Wire, Highland Fabricators, Triad-Fabco, and its most recent purchase, the 2016 acquisition of Atlanta Attachment Company.
“With nearly 3,000 employees spread across the country, we remain diligent on building on our corporate family values and the sense of personal responsibility that has guided our company from the beginning,” said Mark Jones, president and chief executive officer of HSM. “This site is a great way to communicate those guiding principles and reflect on how far we’ve come.”
“It’s always inspiring to look through these historic photos and review how our industry and the needs of our customers have changed over the years,” Jones continued. “From our humble beginnings in 1944 to pioneering industry-leading manufacturer, HSM remains committed to staying on the forefront of innovation and evolving our business model to remain valuable to our customers for the next 75 years.”
The microsite is one of several initiatives planned for this year to mark the diamond anniversary. A 75th anniversary logo and anniversary video made their debut earlier this year, and the company is also engaging with several charitable organizations in communities where it operates for philanthropic initiatives.
