Morris Furniture Donates Nearly 200 Mattresses for Local Tornado Victims

Ohio-based Morris Furniture Company has announced its donation of nearly 200 mattresses to aid tornado victims in the Miami Valley area.

On Monday, May 27, 2019, several devastating tornados hit the Miami Valley area causing widespread damage. Schools, homes and businesses have been damaged or destroyed. Tens of thousands were left without power, and emergency shelters provided temporary housing for hundreds of victims of the tornados.

Morris will deliver 3 truckloads of mattresses and bedding accessories to St. Vincent de Paul, in Dayton, Ohio on Monday, July 15 at 10 a.m. Members of the media are welcome to attend a special presentation.

Numerous social service agencies, first responders and volunteers have come together to help those in need. Morris Furniture Company salutes all the members of the communities it serves who have taken action to help those impacted by the powerful storms.

“We are Dayton strong. We are Miami Valley strong. We stand with tornado victims and the volunteers helping people put their homes, businesses and lives back together,” said Larry Klaben, president and CEO.

“Morris Furniture Company and our retail brands, Morris Home, Ashley HomeStore and the Better Sleep Shop will donate nearly 200 mattresses, sheet sets, and mattress protectors to impacted families. St. Vincent de Paul will receive the mattress and bedding accessories to assist members of our community in rebuilding their homes,” added Klaben.

Michael Vanderburgh, executive eirector at St. Vincent de Paul Society said, “We are very grateful for our partnership with Morris Furniture Company, in response to the Memorial Day tornadoes. Once housing is secured for uninsured or underinsured tornado victims, often the greatest need they have is for places to sit, sleep, and eat. Morris is a great partner in providing the furniture and mattresses we need.”

Klaben continued, “This donation is made possible by our dedicated team of company associates and several key Morris Furniture Company vendors. We’d like to extend special thanks to our partners at Tempur-Sealy International, Inc., Ashley Furniture and GBS Enterprises in helping us with this donation to St. Vincent de Paul.”

Morris Furniture Company has been serving Dayton and the entire Miami Valley for nearly 72 years. While there have been major weather stories over the years, this storm is one for the record books with significantly more widespread damage than ever before.

“We know that many families have lost everything they own. Since the St. Vincent De Paul has years of experience helping families rebuild their lives after weather related calamities, we will leave it to the experts at this renowned organization to distribute these mattresses and bedding accessories,” said Klaben.  “Morris Furniture Company is committed to helping families rebuild their homes. Area residents who have lost furniture and mattresses will be able to purchase replacement home furnishings at our new employee prices with extended financing. Tornado victims are encouraged to visit any of our Dayton area Morris Home, Better Sleep Shop, Ashley HomeStore or Morris Back Room showrooms and make a purchase at our new employee prices. They can use their Red Cross Client Assistance Card or utilize one of our extended financing programs.”
