Walker Furniture Completes 8th Mattress Delivery to Local Firehouses

Las Vegas-based Walker Furniture has announced its eighth delivery for the “Project Firehouse: Rested & Ready” program, donating six new mattresses, foundations and protectors to Firehouse Station 33 on E. Desert Inn Road near the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“It’s not a nine-to-five job,” said Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Buchanan. “Firefighters have to be ready to respond. Imagine every night at any given minute when you’re going to sleep, you have to abruptly wake up, run your fastest and perform your best.”

According to Buchanan, every firefighter in Clark County works an average of 2,912 hours a year compared to a normal individual’s 2,080 hours a year. A good mattress is of great importance to a firefighter’s health and wellbeing.

“For Walker it is a community approach,” said Linda Alterwitz-Mizrahi, Walker Furniture co-owner, who attends every delivery. “Providing mattresses for our hardworking firefighters who are on constant call to help all of us is our way of showing appreciation for all they do. It’s our thank you.”

Deliveries are taking about two-and-a-half years to complete. This delivery totaled 62 new mattresses delivered to eight CCFD stations.
