Four hundred metro Detroiters, whose lives were turned upside down when last month’s torrential downpours caused massive flooding in their homes, are sleeping easier thanks to Art Van Furniture and Tempur Sealy International. On Saturday, June 1, the Midwest furniture and mattress retailer joined with the bedding provider, donating $300,000 in new queen and twin mattresses to Dearborn Heights and metro Detroit residents hardest hit by the flooding in May.
“Art Van cares and always stands ready to help families in need,” said Ron Boire, president and CEO of Art Van Furniture. “Our commitment to our communities runs deep. When we saw homes and belongings being destroyed, we immediately joined forces with Tempur Sealy to be part of the solution.”
Four 53-foot Art Van Furniture semi-trucks, each filled with new Tempur Sealy mattresses, arrived at the Richard Young Community Center in Dearborn Heights and at Hope Community Church in Detroit at 8 a.m. Saturday morning. Art Van Furniture volunteers helped unload and distribute the mattresses to flood victims.
“Each year, Tempur Sealy donates tens of thousands of mattresses to organizations and people in need and we were honored to partner with Art Van on this donation event,” said Rick Maynard, spokesperson for Tempur Sealy International. “A single mattress can change the life of someone who has lost so much due to flooding.”
