White House Threatens Tariffs on Mexico

President Trump has announced his intentions to impose new tariffs on Mexico in an effort to crack down on immigration at the southern U.S. border, according to a report from CNN

Trump said in a White House statement that the first round of tariffs would begin on June 10 at 5% "on all goods imported from Mexico."

The White House indicated the tariff would increase to 10% on July 1 if Mexico does not comply. If the country continues to not act, the White House said, the tariff will increase to 15% on August 1, 20% on September 1 and 25% on October 1.

The statement also said Trump would carry out his threat under authority from the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
