Mattress Firm Releases Survey, ‘How America Sleeps’

Bedding retailer Mattress Firm has released the findings of its inaugural "How America Sleeps" survey, illuminating the most popular sleep habits across the country and the lengths that Americans are willing to go in order to get a good night's sleep.

Responses from the survey's 3,000 participants found that the average adult is falling short of the recommended seven to eight hours of sleep a night and that having the TV on is necessary for more than 30% of the respondents in order to fall asleep.

Additionally, the average American surveyed would pay close to $300 every night if it meant having a "perfect night's sleep."

"May is Better Sleep Month, so this is the perfect time to release the results of our How America Sleeps survey. What we hope to shed light on is that the habits you have formed as part of your bedtime routine can actually be hurting your sleep quality," said Sunni Goodman, vice president of communications & customer experience.

"The results of the survey show that the average American respondent is not getting enough quality sleep with more than 35% saying their sleep quality is "not very good' and we know sleep is critical to the overall function of our bodies and brains. As a company that is obsessed with sleep, we hope that the survey results will help fuel a commitment by Americans to improve their quality of sleep," added Goodman.
