The Haverty Cup was established in 1988 by the late Rawson Haverty to annually honor an outstanding graduating senior in one of the home furnishings-related programs at HPU. This tribute was created to encourage students to pursue a career in the home furnishings industry.
Perley, who is from Kernersville, N.C., was presented the award on campus Friday, April 5 by Havertys’ Steve Burdette, executive vice president, operations, and Scott Miles, vice president stores and western regional manager. Perley received a $2,500 award and a personal replica of the Haverty Cup. Her name will be engraved on the base of the Haverty Cup, which is on permanent display in the library of Norton Hall on the HPU campus.
Perley has proven herself to be an outstanding student by both participating as a member of the women’s soccer team and earning high academic honors as a Dean’s List student. She will be graduating in May 2019 with a major in visual merchandising design and a minor in fashion merchandising.
Perley has used her visual merchandising and knowledge of retailing to assist retailers in the local area with store displays and sales. She has worked with Kendra Scott, American Eagle and Altar’D State in Greensboro as well as Bevello in Winston-Salem.
She has proven that she is serious about pursuing a meaningful career in the home furnishings industry by working part-time in industry-related positions prior to and during the High Point Market. She has worked with the MT Companies and Bassett Mirror Company. She has also expanded her knowledge beyond the classroom by completing internships with High Point-based Kreber Inc., a full-service marketing and photography agency, and Gefen Marketing, a marketing agency.
The International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA) recognized Perley as a “Rising Star” Luminary for 2018, and she is a student member of WithIt – Women’s Leadership Development Network.
