Norwalk Forecasts Color Trends for Spring: Toast & Tea, Tidewater, Bohemian Rhapsody on Tap

Norwalk Furniture will unveil three emerging color trends throughout its showroom at the upcoming High Point Market. From warm browns, to calming tones of blue, to vibrant patterns with unexpected pops of color, the three color stories will be presented across dozens of new silhouettes and a variety of best-selling pieces.

Derived from a creative process including global trend spotting trips, decorating trends in leading design publications and key takeaways from ITA Showtime, the three trends – “Toast and Tea”, “Tidewater” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” – present warm brown-tone base colors, a fresh, yet calming, twist on blue and a “more is more” approach to the popular maximalist decorating trend.

“While the ever-popular grey base colors are showing no signs of slowing down, we are also seeing warmer brown tones making their way into homes as a new neutral,” said Caroline Hipple, president of Norwalk Furniture. “While it may not replace greys overnight, as an industry leader in color forecasting, we strive to present what we predict to be the next up and coming hue. These warm brown tones, which were quite popular in the ‘80s and ‘90s, appear to be making a major comeback.”

Hipple continued, “In addition, blues with green undertones are emerging as soothing neutrals with a variety of pairing directions. Appealing to those with a maximalist design aesthetic, we are also presenting several vignettes with vibrant and bold colors and patterns to empower those looking for the ‘more is more’ approach to decorating.”

The three themes, presented in coordinated colors, patterns and textures across the company’s assortment of sofas, sectionals, chairs, ottomans, headboards and pillows include 125 new fabric choices for Spring 2019.

Toast and Tea: As the furniture industry and consumers look for the next new base color direction away from grey, soft browns are becoming increasingly important. These warm neutral colors range from rich espresso, to mid-toned nutmeg and as light as café au lait.

Tidewater: Tidewater is a very soft blue teal with just a hint of green undertone, that is an instant room refresher, no matter what the room’s core style. This silver-based blue instills a laid-back vibe to any décor and is equally at home in both modern and traditional room settings. Pairing equally well with chocolate browns or silvery greys, the versatile color can also go a bit bold when paired with deep granite or charcoal.

Bohemian Rhapsody: Colorful, exuberant, and eclectic in its approach, the increasingly frequent use of the maximalist design trend paves the path for this color story. Featuring royal shades and rich jewel tones mixed with vibrant patterns and tactile fabrics, the look brings an old-world design approach to a new group of adventuresome consumers.

A trend presentation, including hundreds of visuals that support each of the three trends, will be on display in Norwalk Furniture’s showroom, located in space M-108 in the International Home Furnishings Center.
