Upholstery producer Norwalk Furniture is adding a dedicated Las Vegas Market showroom to display its line of upholstery products developed in partnership with Los Angeles-based designer, Kim Salmela.
Located in Building A, space 214, across the hall from Norwalk’s current showroom in A225, the Kim Salmela Collection will be displayed in a 1,142 square foot space, increasing the company’s total exhibition space by 20 percent.
Bringing together Salmela’s well-traveled and free spirited vibe with Norwalk’s manufacturing expertise, the collection of 35 upholstered sofas, sectionals, accent chairs and ottomans combine a bold and stylish mix of textures, colors and patterns with fresh seating silhouettes to create a distinctive aesthetic that is targeted towards a younger audience.
Salmela designs and manufactures her own custom furniture line and previously owned several award-winning home furnishings retail stores. She works with clients on commercial as well as residential interior design projects. Salmela got her start in design as the creative director for the entertainer Prince and has a background in designing spaces for social events, including set and costume designs.
“Kim’s eclectic background – which includes an undeniable west coast design aesthetic – will be very appealing to our dealers and interior design partners attending the Las Vegas Market,” said Caroline Hipple, president of Norwalk Furniture. “Her ability to mix colors, patterns and textures brings a new point of view to an already successful product line here at Norwalk and we’re excited to be launching the collection on the west coast in a big way with the addition of this Las Vegas showroom, which is adjacent to our current space.”
Characterized by layers of texture, color and pattern on pattern applications in a variety of European and ‘70s color palettes, the collection includes 50 signature fabrics in hues of evergreen, vibrant mauve, bluish lavenders and pinks which are layered upon neutrals of ivory, black and camel. The pieces are also available in any of Norwalk’s 800 fabrics and dozens of nail head trim and finish options.
To commemorate the grand opening of the showroom, a ribbon cutting will take place on Sunday Jan. 27 at 8:40 a.m. That evening, the company will also host a wine tasting in partnership with Crypton Home from 4 - 6 p.m. The event will include an exclusive tasting and raffle from Liquid Farm Wines along with a demonstration of Crypton’s wine-resistant fabrics. Both events are free and open to all Market attendees.
