City Furniture Names Andrew Koenig to President

Home furnishings retailer City Furniture has promoted Andrew Koenig to president. The company owns and operates a network of 29 City Furniture and Ashley HomeStore showrooms throughout Florida.

Koenig, who joined the 47-year-old, family-owned company 15 years ago, most recently served as vice president and chief operating officer. His father, Keith Koenig, is co-founder, CEO and the previous long-time president.

“As COO, Andrew’s leadership has been transformational in every aspect of our operations, marketing, merchandising and human resources,” said Keith Koenig. “His track record for anticipating and realizing the potential of major economic and industry trends has positioned us to continue City Furniture’s significant statewide growth.”

“He inspires ahead-of-the-curve thinking and productive change at every level of our team,” Keith Koenig added, “from leading us in adopting Lean Management principles and advanced technology, to guiding City Furniture’s evolution as a national pioneer in green practices.”

Andrew Koenig, who studied kaizen management methods in Japan, has led City Furniture’s high-growth, continuous improvement process that has boosted productivity throughout the past decade.

As president, he will oversee all departments and associates, as well as the roll-out of the Lean Management system he developed. His “greening” of the firm’s approximately 100-truck delivery fleet to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) has cut emissions by 47 percent, produces strong, ongoing ROI and has won numerous national awards.

City Furniture is underway with a $100 million expansion, including the opening of its first of three showrooms in the Orlando market in November 2018. The Tamarac, Fla.-based company employs 1,850 associates statewide, and expects to create approximately 400 new jobs in South and Central Florida this year.

The firm is the exclusive Southeast and Southwest Florida licensee for Ashley HomeStore. A dual-brand City Furniture and adjacent Ashley HomeStore is slated for opening this year in Doral. The company’s largest-ever showroom, a 120,000-square-foot City Furniture superstore is under construction near Mall at Millennia in the Orlando market, as is a new 114,000-square-foot showroom in Altamonte Springs.

Active in the national retail furniture industry and South Florida’s business and civic community, Andrew Koenig serves on the board of directors of Junior Achievement of South Florida. He earned his Master of Business Administration degree in Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurial Studies from Nova Southeastern University and his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Elon University.
