Founded in 1953 by Sigmund and Audrey Lenchner, Today’s Home is now owned and operated by their son, Jeff Lenchner and has become a third-generation company with granddaughter Rachel Lenchner Torres as director of marketing and design.
Last spring the retailer consolidated its two showrooms into one after selling its Ross Township real estate to a national tire chain. Lenchner now maintains two retailer identities in a 60,000-square-foot showroom. The company shares the space with its clearance center, Designer Furniture Outlet (DFO).
In addition to the 66-year-old retail operation, Today’s Home operates two other companies, serving the business-to-business segments. TH Trade Contract serves the corporate, health, education, and hospitality markets, and TH Trade Design, the largest trade showroom for independent designers in the Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia markets.
“From time to time, we see businesses going through evolutions” said Andrew Kauffman, CEO of Furniture First. “Companies with long histories, like Today’s Home, will tweak their strategy or see a new opportunity in their markets. That’s a great time for them to join our group. We can help them through those transitions with resources that they weren’t using before and they can leverage the knowledge of our member base to improve their performance.”
