Southerland Expands into Northwest, Acquires Tualatin Sleep Products

The acquisition will facilitate Southerland’s growth in the Northwest, expanding the company throughout the five-state market of Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming.

This acquisition will allow us to better service existing customers in the Northwest while enhancing our reach into the region,” said Bryan Smith, president and CEO of Southerland. “Tualatin Sleep is great addition to the Southerland family, and its commitment to quality and service syncs nicely with the way we do business.”

Both companies are key Englander licensees, adding to the synergies and the appeal of acquiring Tualatin Sleep, Smith said. The deal is expected to close by the first of the year. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Tualatin Sleep is a family owned organization that includes John Hagglund, president of Tualatin Sleep. He will remain with the company as regional vp of sales for the Northwest.

“Our group is thrilled with the acquisition by Southerland. We’ve been affiliated with the company through our work with Englander and think highly of its management team, product quality and corporate ethos,” Hagglund said.

Under the agreement, Southerland will lease the 70,000-square-foot Tualatin factory to manufacture and distribute mattresses and foundations, as well as distribute Southerland’s adjustable base lineup into the region.

The additional manufacturing square footage pushes the company’s total manufacturing space for mattresses, foundations and adjustable bases to 480,000 square feet across seven facilities.
