Kingsdown, BedMatch System Reaches 12 Million Consumer Profiles

Bedding producer Kingsdown has announced a milestone attained with its BedMatch diagnostic system, adding the 12 millionth consumer profile to its worldwide database.

The profiles, which are collected without sharing the identity of consumers, provide retailers with valuable insight into the needs of customers.

The BedMatch system uses 18 statistical measurements and takes more than 1,000 calculations to determine the mattress that provides the correct level of support and pressure relief for the consumer’s specific body type and sleeping position. A brand agnostic technology, more than 1,000 BedMatch systems are being used by more than 100 retailers worldwide.

The system also includes an online diagnostic feature that a consumer can use before entering a retail store, or it can be linked to a dealer’s e-commerce initiatives.

“The BedMatch system benefits both consumers and retailers, and now, more than 12 million people have created profiles,” said Frank Hood, CEO. “We remain the leading provider of diagnostics that deliver not only a strong selling proposition for RSAs, but also reassurance to consumers that they’re buying the most supportive mattress for their body type. With BedMatch, Kingsdown has revolutionized the way bedding is sold.”

The culmination of data gathered through the years has influenced the system’s mattress recommendation for consumers. Hood said retailers using BedMatch see an average increase of more than $300 in average unit selling price for a queen mattress purchase.

The latest version of BedMatch, which was rolled out in January, features 3-D technology that measures the body with a 360-degree scan. It offers a sleeker retail kiosk that better displays the measurement process for consumers, including a high-definition screen positioned above the bed that displays an identical avatar of the consumer’s body in 3-D. Once all the calculations are completed, the system recommends a group of mattresses using Kingsdown’s gold, green, blue and red designations for support levels. The new kiosk lights up in the recommended color.

The system also comes with customized analytics that allow retailers to track sales and SKU performance across multiple stores and set sales goals for individual locations. Plus, it allows retailers to gain insights into specific customer needs and can recommend merchandising strategies to meet those needs.
