IDS Releases Application for Designer of the Year Award, SFC Sponsors #Get YourGreenOn Award

The Interior Design Society (IDS) has released the application for their Designer of the Year Awards program with over 20 categories in residential interior design, including specialty awards such as the Sherwin-Williams Sponsor Award, IMPACT awards for pro-bono projects and a new category for new construction.

This year, the Sustainable Design, #GetYourGreenOn Award is sponsored by the Sustainable Furnishings Council, created for designers who create environmentally conscious spaces. These designs should take into consideration the principles of social, economic and ecological sustainability ensuring that the design does not leave a negative impact on our environment.

“Sustainable Furnishings Council thinks it is important for EVERY designer to do what s/he can to #GetYourGreenOn,” says Susan Inglis, executive director Sustainable Furnishings Council. “And what does that involve? It is about asking ‘What's it made of?’ and paying special attention to the answers you get when it is made of wood, and when there might be harmful chemicals involved in the manufacture of the product.”

Inglis continued, “It is also about doing business with companies you trust to have a commitment to sustainability and to transparency, like Sustainable Furnishings Council members.  We at SFC are delighted to be working with IDS on this very important Designer of The Year Award and we can hardly wait to see who wins in the Sustainable Design category!”

“IDS is excited to partner with experts in sustainability on this award,” says Jenny Cano, executive director of IDS. “Our relationship with Sustainable Furnishings Council is important in helping us emphasize the significance of sustainability in Interior Design. We are proud to recognize designers who consider our environment in their work. It is a great honor to receive this award.”

Members of the Interior Design Society and Sustainable Furnishings Council can enter the awards competition online at https://idsawards.secure-platform.com/.

Entrants who submit their designs before Jan. 1, 2019 will save 20 percent. Winners will be recognized in Palm Springs, Calif. on May 4, 2019.
