Abbyson Named in Most Influential Family Owned Business Spotlight

The feature is new this year and honors 51 of the most influential family businesses in Southern California and highlights their accomplishments and contributions to the business community.

Abbyson was nominated alongside several major family businesses that include the Los Angeles Chargers, Galpin Motors, Don Francisco’s Coffee, and Burke Williams. The nominees were announced and profiled in a special section of the paper on Nov. 29.

“We are honored to be included in this new and exciting feature,” said Yavar Rafieha, president. “Abbyson has been dedicated to family since starting the business in 1989, and our entire team of incredible employees are part of our extended family.”

When Abby Rafieha founded the business in the late 80s, he traveled the world seeking to incorporate the culture of art and design into home products. By 2003, Rafieha began to involve his three sons, Yavar, Doddy, and Rodd, into the business and to develop their entrepreneurial and business skill sets. 

Abbyson has been recognized in the feature’s large family business category, which includes companies of 250 or more employees. Since transitioning the day-to-day operations over to the second generation, the company has grown exponentially to become a well-known player in the furniture industry and a leader in trends and technology.

The company was also named one of the INC 500 America’s Fastest Growing Companies for five consecutive years (2008-2012), growing 2,142 percent in a 3-year span, was a semi-finalist for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Greater Los Angeles area in 2014, and was previously named one of the fastest growing private companies by the Los Angeles Business Journal in 2011.
