Amazon Adds Mattresses to Private Label

On the heels of online mattress retailer Casper’s success, Amazon launched two of its own mattresses last month, according to a report from CNN Business.

Now selling a 12-inch memory foam bed under the Amazon Basics brand for $219.99 and the Rivet memory foam full mattress for $449, Amazon hopes to capitalize on the $16 billion-dollar mattress industry.

"Mattresses are an ideal category for Amazon to private label," said Cooper Smith, head of Amazon research at the consulting firm Gartner L2. "Brands like Casper and Tuft & Needle have already validated digital as a growing sales channel."
