Shelba D. Johnson Trucking, Inc., headquartered in Thomasville, N.C., has donated the use of a 53-foot semi-trailer for accepting donations. This trailer will be delivered to the IMC parking lot in between the IHFC and Showplace buildings in the Market district. Exhibitors are encouraged to deliver donations to the trailer between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, or between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, or Friday, Oct. 19.
The Barnabas Network, a non-profit furniture bank serving Guilford County, is providing volunteers to staff and manage the donation point and accept any incoming furniture from exhibitors.
After all donations have been received, they will be delivered to The Green Chair Project in Raleigh, N.C. Also a non-profit furniture bank, The Green Chair Project will manage distribution of the donated items to hurricane victims in need.
“It was heartbreaking to hear the stories of loss from our neighbors in the eastern part of North Carolina and the surrounding states after Hurricane Florence,” said Tom Conley, president and CEO of the High Point Market Authority. “We knew right away we wanted to help if we could. We’re part of such a caring industry; I have no doubt the generosity of our exhibitors will help ease the burden of recovery for those impacted.”
The Market Authority has also set up a donation page through the American Red Cross for anyone that wishes to assist with the relief efforts. Donations can be made at https://www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/high-point-market-hurricane-florence-relief-fund.
