Norwalk Furniture Expands Customizable Collections, New Accent Chairs

Upholstery producer Norwalk Furniture has announced the launch of a new assortment of accent chairs for Fall High Point Market, expanding its customizable collections.

The new collection has roots in mid-century and Danish modern design of the early 20th century and has multiple configurations.

“Mid-century modern design is one trend that shows no sign of going away, and today, more than ever, the look is everywhere,” said Caroline Hipple, president. “However, while sleek and timeless, the style can appear dated if it isn’t executed correctly.”

“The key to making it appeal to today’s consumer is focusing on the comfort and functionality of the silhouettes and adding an updated color palette,” Hipple continued. “We aren’t going for the avocado chair from the 1960s, rather, you’ll see a continuum of fresh on-trend colors mingled amongst neutrals that never go out of style. The added benefit of multiple customization options adds versatility and a ‘fun factor’ to retail sales floors and makes each upholstery vignette very productive.”

Six accent chairs channel mid-century and Danish modern style with design elements including shapely stationary seating silhouettes with retro-styled legs and organic curves on swivel bases that keep the silhouettes moving.

Highlights of the accent chair designs include:

Alphonse Corner Chair: Featuring deep padding seating and natural beech legs, the shapely chair cradles the user and is ideally suited for small spaces and works well in pairs.

Rondo Club Chair: The globe-shaped chair has a dramatic welt line that runs across the back and down the front of the chair. Designed to complement, but not exactly match, Norwalk’s existing Rondo sofa, it features a waterfall seat that accentuates the sharp arm profile.

Cozy Chair: Featuring a deeply scooped seat and back, Cozy sits low to the floor and is scaled for smaller rooms and apartment living. With exposed beech wood arms and bat-shaped legs, it will be shown in a faux-sheepskin cover – a marriage of organic shape, fun furs and bleached wood with a decidedly Danish modern vibe.

Tab Swivel Chair: Another nod to Danish modern styling, this high-back chair features an exposed wood base, slightly flared arms and graceful lines that enhance the motion created by the hidden swivel mechanism. Created for a media room, family room, or as a master desk chair.

In addition, a new modern and customizable sofa group is being added to the Norwalk product portfolio. Jana is available in three configurations of cushions and pillows and two frame options. The versatile design can be configured as a two-seat sofa with bolster pillows, a three-seat sofa with button detailing and two toss pillows, or as a bench seat with a trendy ball accent pillow and arm bolsters. It’s also available with a steel frame or a recessed tapered leg.

The company is also adding modern style and additional custom options to its Company C by Norwalk Furniture collection. Belknap, a three-piece group available in sofa, chair and ottoman styles, features a tight back silhouette characterized by its buttonless square tufting details which offer opportunities for customization with contrasting threads. The 88-inch sofa has loose T-cushion seating and a refined wood base that is available in multiple finish options.

Company C’s Exeter Variations Program will be offered in a choice of 150 leathers this Market, in addition to its already wide selection of arm and leg styles, and choice of more than 800 fabrics and a dozen nail head options. Additional introductions to the line include the Beacon silhouette and the Helene Swivel Chair, which was introduced to the collection three years ago, will now be offered as a stationary chair.
