Retailer Walker Furniture has announced the first mattress delivery for its Project Firehouse: Rested & Ready, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 10:30 a.m. to Firehouse Station 15 at 3480 S. Valley View Blvd.
Walker will provide six new mattresses and ultimately deliver new mattresses to all 30 Clark County firehouses in the Las Vegas Valley.
“Firehouses serve as a home for people working there,” said Linda Alterwitz-Mizrahi, co-owner of Walker Furniture. “Firefighters are on constant alert and in a state of fatigue and sleep deprivation, which can contribute to poor health. A couple hours of good rest on a good mattress can make these first responders more rested-and-ready for the next day.”
A firehouse is like a very busy hotel,” said Deputy Fire Chief, Jeff Buchanan. “With more than 150,000 responses a year, the Clark County Fire Department is the busiest fire department in the state and one of the busiest in the country. Firefighters are up and down all night long and have no sleep cycle, so a good mattress is important.”
The downturn in the economy put us far behind,” added Buchanan. “The response calls came first. Sacrificing new mattresses was one cut back.”
