Fast Fact: Job Openings Across Major Industries, Midwest Vacancies Soar

Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics supports the growing need facing companies to attract and retain employees, while adapting their training methods and introducing technology that fills the gap of a smaller workforce.
Among the industries, Professional and Business Services top the list of highest number of job openings with 1.09 million in January 2018, followed by Healthcare and Social Assistance at 1.03 million openings.
With regards to Region, the South leads the way in total job openings at 2.2 million. However, openings in the Midwest soared in one year to a rate of 4.6 percent – up from 3.7 percent. As many farms struggle to find workers, openings in the West jumped 26 percent to 1.5 million jobs, while the Northeast has the lowest number of vacancies at 1 million.
