Casper to Open 200 Stores Amid Mattress Firm’s Shaky Future

On the heels of reports of Mattress Firm’s possible bankruptcy filing, online mattress retailer Casper has announced its plans to open 200 stores over the next three years, reports the Chicago Tribune.

According to the report, online bed-in-a-box brands accounted for 11 percent of the mattress market – up from eight percent last year. Recognizing that many shoppers don’t want to buy a new mattress sight unseen, Casper believes investing in bricks and mortar will pay off.

While still identifying locations for the new stores, the company’s two pop-up shops in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood and at Oakbrook Center mall will become permanent.
