AHFA Solution Partners Division Awards Eight Scholarships
July 5,
2018 by Jason Schneider in Business Strategy, Industry
Last month eight $2,500 scholarships were awarded to the children of industry workers. Previously, six $2,000 scholarships were presented annually.
“The Solution Partners Annual Education Golf Tournament continues to grow, and we are thrilled that this has enabled us to expand the scholarship program,” said Mary O’Keeffe, executive director of Solution Partners.
AHFA’s Solution Partners division is made up of more than 150 companies that supply products and services to the residential furniture industry worldwide. Its Annual Education Golf Tournament supports a variety of educational initiatives, including the scholarship program. This year’s tournament is Sept. 12 at Lake Hickory Country Club in Hickory, N.C. Team sign-up and sponsorship information is at www.ahfa.us/events/event/solution-partners-education-golf-tournament/.
The 2018 scholarship recipients are Shelby Corriher, Hickory, N.C., daughter of Heritage Home Group employee Robert Corriher; Joshua Killian, Hickory, N.C., son of Century Furniture employee Bradley Killian; Solis Ly, Hickory, N.C., daughter of Shenandoah Furniture employee Maya Vang; Bradleigh Mills, Boiling Springs, S.C., daughter of Covington Fabric employee Leslie Mills; Abbey Shehan, Hudson, N.C., daughter of Century Furniture employee Rachel Shehan; Makayla Ward, Hickory, N.C., daughter of Hickory White employee Randall Ward; Colin Warren, Pontotoc, Miss., son of Franklin Corp. employee Roger Warren; and Ashley Weems, Neosho, Mo., daughter of La-Z-Boy Midwest employee Charles Weems.
The one-year scholarships are awarded based on financial need and the academic merit of the student. Students may reapply for the scholarship each year they are in school, provided a parent remains employed full time at an AHFA member company, including all International Casual Furnishings Association (ICFA) companies and Solution Partners companies.
“This is the only scholarship program designed to benefit the children of industry workers, regardless of the student’s major. Since the program began in 1990, more than 100 scholarships have been awarded, and 44 different AHFA member companies have had scholarship winners,” O’Keeffe stated.
“This program is an often overlooked benefit of AHFA membership,” O’Keeffe continued. “The Solution Partners division is proud to have assisted in funding higher education for the children of so many industry workers.”
