Luxury furniture brand Kindel Grand Rapids has announced a new collection in collaboration with Grand Rapids designer Jeffery Roberts, which was previewed at the High Point Furniture Market in April.
Kindel Grand Rapids and Roberts’ relationship has grown into collaborations on multiple levels, including product design, color and finish exploration, as well as showroom design.
For his eponymous collection, Roberts selected 12 furniture designs. “I knew it was time to design a collection because many times over the past 30 years, I couldn’t find what I was looking for in the marketplace. I would just draw it up and have it made,” Roberts said. “This enormous library of ideas and individual pieces is what inspired the collection. I selected Kindel Grand Rapids to engineer and build my designs because their quality and craftsmanship is second to none.”
Rob Burch, CEO of Kindel Grand Rapids said, “We love working with Jeffery because he brings a fresh take on classic design. Our ability to execute design is unsurpassed in the industry, and Jeffery recognizes that Kindel Grand Rapids can bring his vision to life. Jeffery’s visionary approach incorporates design details and new finish choices that reflect modern living today.”
All pieces in the collection are thoughtfully represented in Roberts’ artistically designed finishes. The finishes are complex in their application with multiple layers of color and stain, with some painted finishes requiring the use of gesso to create texture and relief. The Bluebird and Flame finishes are comprised of many colors layered one on top of another and rubbed through to reveal undercoats. His reverence for history and nature are evident in choices of color (midnight blue, moss green, and dove grey) and overall finished appearance and texture.
Kindel Grand Rapids has two showrooms: one in New York and another in High Point, N.C. The collection will launch in the N.Y. showroom at What’s New, What’s Next in September at the New York Design Center.
