Known for his use of vibrant colors, Carleton Varney, the hotel’s interior designer and president of Dorothy Draper & Company, has designed the Grand Hotel Collection to capture the essence of the summer season and the spirit of the historic Michigan hotel.
Kindel Furniture, along with Varney, have been creating custom furniture for the hotel for more than 20 years. Interior design clients and guests can now recreate the atmosphere and charm of the hotel in their own homes and spaces with these signature furniture pieces.
The collection is composed of eight bedroom furniture pieces. These designs have been used to furnish guest rooms and include a poster headboard, single chest, double chest, nightstand, armoire, lamp table, and armchair.
The furniture is standard in white lacquer with Grand Hotel Green painted accents. The geranium, a Grand Hotel signature motif, is used throughout the collection and hand-painted by Lily Janjic, Kindel artist and decorator.
Each piece is individually made and handcrafted in Grand Rapids. Since the furniture is made to order, there are multiple painted lacquers and accent colors to choose from.
