Bunakara Unveils Added Pieces to Portuguese-Inspired Collection

The Portuguese-inspired collection will feature case goods, upholstered furniture, and home accents.
Pairing handcrafted Portuguese practices with traditional European manufacturing techniques, each piece is rooted in European design, yet adapted for the U.S. market with special attention to scale, detail, materials, and quality.
“When designing for the American market, I always consider both the form and the function of each piece,” said Joana Aranha, founder. “The U.S. is a melting pot of many cultures, which allows me to blend several unique styles into the products I design.
“In my creations, I aim to reflect the history and backstories of the design inspiration, which helps to evoke a sense of purity and comfort within each piece, always with a special attention to detail, which is the hallmark of our products,” Aranha added.
Highlights of the upholstery introductions include the Bohemian sofa, characterized by its casual slipcovered look. Featuring scaled track arms and 100 percent feather seat cushions, the sofa is available in an 89- or 126-inch size to offer flexibility for smaller living spaces. Upholstered in straw-tone or navy blue linen and accented with natural leather stitching details, the sofa can be paired with a coordinating ottoman.
Accent items designed to coordinate with the Bohemian sofa include a square accent pillow with handmade leather cross-stitching details and a bolster pillow accented with burlap twine. A magazine bag—a first for the line—designed in the style of a traditional messenger bag will hold hold a variety of reading material, a television remote control, and other knick-knacks.
The Sphere armchair offers two finishes: black-and-white stripes and navy blue. Each padded seat is upholstered in cotton velvet to match the colors of the chair. Crafted of chestnut with bronze accents, each chair features the beaded Flower of India insignia—a trademark of the company.
Headlining new case goods is the Chestnut and Rivets dining table, which incorporates bronze rivet detailing alongside natural chestnut. The Pipe and Bronze console table pairs well with many of the line’s sofa styles. The final table introduction, 19th Century, is characterized by its top made with blue and white 19th century tiles recovered from old Portuguese palaces.
This market, Bunakara is also unveiling a collection of Portuguese-inspired ceramic earthenware, a new product category for the company. The collection of decorative bowls will be presented in a color palette of blues and corals, to coordinate with the featured colorways of the new furniture and textiles.
Bunkara’s High Point showroom is located at Salon G-6055 in the Suites at Market Square.
