A Video Tribute to Art Van Elslander

With an assist from Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, Art Van Furniture has produced a video tribute to its founder, Art Van Elslander, who died Feb. 12 at age 87.

The tribute, set to the Sinatra/Martin rendition of “Style,” mixes video clips and still photos of the founder at a variety of store openings, ribbon-cuttings, charity events, and the famed Detroit Thanksgiving Day parade.

Van Elslander saved the parade from extinction with a 1990 donation, and rode in the parade for many years thereafter.

Founded in 1959 with a single store that sold Danish and contemporary furniture, Art Van Furniture now has more than 180 stores in nine states. Van Elslander sold the company last year to the private equity firm Thomas H. Lee.
