Report: Harden Furniture Resumes Limited Production
February 15,
2018 by Larry Thomas in Business Strategy, Industry
High-end case goods and upholstery producer Harden Furniture has resumed limited production at its factory in McConnellsville, N.Y., after a brief shutdown following the company’s sale at a foreclosure auction, according to a report in the Syracuse (N.Y.) Post-Standard.
The report said 82 workers returned to work earlier this week, and the company’s remaining 90 employees could be back on the job soon.
Founded in 1844, the company is believed to be the oldest producer of residential furniture in North America. CEO Greg Harden is the fifth generation of the founding family to run the company.
Harden sold controlling interest in the company to Miramar Capital Partners in 2016, but it was purchased at a foreclosure auction in late January by Big Shoulders Capital.
According to the Post-Standard story, the new owner has not told Greg Harden about its long-term plans for the company, but has given him permission to look for other investors to buy back the company.
