Target (NYSE: TGT) has expanded its partnership with online mattress powerhouse Casper by introducing an exclusive Casper mattress that will be sold in select Target stores and on the retailer’s website.
Called the Casper Essential, Target described the mattress as Casper’s first “streamlined mattress.”
In a newsletter sent to customers and employees, Target said the new product will retail from $350 for twin size to $725 for a California king.
The newsletter said it will be on display in 35 Target stores from mid-February through mid-March, and eventually will be available in about 350 stores nationwide.
The new mattress has “the same pressure-relieving memory foam and breathable top layer we all know and love,” the newsletter said.
At the same time, Casper, the largest of the so-called bed-in-a-box producers, also is launching a Target-exclusive sheet line, the retailer said.
Target and Casper began their partnership last spring when Target started selling Casper products on its website. Shortly after the partnership was announced, Target invested $75 million in Casper, and reportedly offered $1 billion to buy the company.
