Jordan’s Furniture has begun accepting donations of new and like-new baseball and softball equipment that will be distributed to inner-city youth.
Now in its eighth year, the retailer’s Double Play Youth Baseball Donation Program is in partnership with the Boston Red Sox, who will distribute the equipment to more than 2,000 youth through the Red Sox Foundation’s Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program.
"This is the eighth year that we are running our youth baseball donation program because we have seen in past seasons that the equipment gets directly in the hands of kids who need it. And the need does not end," said Eliot Tatelman, president and CEO of Jordan's Furniture. "In this day and age of pay-to-play, there are thousands of kids that just cannot afford to play sports. We are excited to, again, team up with the Red Sox Foundation…the perfect partner."
Donations will be accepted through April 15 at Jordan’s stores in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire, as well as the retailer’s distribution center in Taunton, Mass.
All donations must be in like-new, clean condition. Equipment needs include metal bats, catcher's gear, gloves, cleats (metal and plastic), baseballs (new), and softballs (new).
"Jordan's Furniture is a tremendous partner in the community. They are providing an incredible resource to hundreds of youth baseball and softball players by creating the Double Play Program," said Red Sox Foundation Executive Director Bekah Salwasser. "We are so appreciative of their commitment and willingness to collaborate to ensure youth have the critical access to recreational opportunities to stay healthy and happy throughout the summer."
