Report: Harden Furniture Shuts Down After Foreclosure Sale

Harden Furniture, believed to be the oldest producer of residential furniture in North America, has closed following the company’s sale at a foreclosure auction, according to several media reports.

According to a story in the Central New York Business Journal, the auction attracted only one bidder, Big Shoulders Capital, who is unlikely to reopen the McConnellsville, N.Y., factory. The company has about 175 employees.

Harden Furniture was founded in 1844, and CEO Greg Harden is the fifth generation of the Harden family to run the company.

Harden told the Business Journal he had been attempting to line up other investors to submit a bid, but wasn’t able to assemble the group in time.
