FastFact: South, West Reap Biggest Benefits When Americans Move
December 11,
2017 by Larry Thomas in Business Strategy, Economic News, Industry
The southern and western states are the biggest beneficiaries when Americans move, as data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows the South and West had the greatest net increase in population from movers from 2015 to 2016.
The data indicates the West had the most net internal migration, which involves people moving in and out of the region from within the United States. The South, however, had the largest net migration, a figure that includes those who moved there from outside the country.
The net internal migration in the Northeast and Midwest has been either null or negative for many years with more people leaving than moving in.
