Capel Rugs Reorganizes Leadership Team, Promotes 3 Execs
North Carolina-based Capel Rugs has reorganized its leadership team and promoted three members of the founding family to new posts.
The company said Cameron Capel has been promoted to president, sales and marketing; Richard Capel has been promoted to president, manufacturing; and Ron Capel has been promoted to president, finance & retail.
The three are grandchildren of A. Leon Capel, who founded the company in 1917.
They will report to the company’s board of directors. Currently, they report to Capel Rugs President and CEO John Magee, who also is a partner with the management consulting firm ABTV.
The company said Magee will step down as president and CEO on Dec. 31, but will remain as an adviser to the management team and the board.
Cameron Capel joined the company in 1991 and has been vice president of national accounts. In her new post, she will direct all wholesale sales and marketing activities as well as lead Capel's Import Division, which sources hand knotted, tufted, loomed and machine-made rugs worldwide.
Richard Capel joined the company in 1989 in a product development post and is currently responsible for all aspects of the company's manufacturing operations, which includes yarn spinning, dying, braiding, sewing and fabrication in Troy, N.C., and Dalton, Ga. In his new position, he will retain responsibility for all manufacturing operations and also will direct human resources and customer service.
Ron Capel joined the company in 1987 as marketing manager in the national sales division, and has been managing director of the company’s retail division since 1993. In his new role, he will retain responsibility for retail, and also will be responsible for finance and information technology.
