NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr., driving a car owned by Furniture Row Owner Barney Visser, captured the Monster Energy Cup season championship Sunday with a win in the season’s final race in Homestead, Fla.
The Denver-based Furniture Row Racing team is the only one headquartered outside NASCAR’s traditional racing hub in the Southeast, but Truex not only won the season championship, but led the series with eight victories, 19 top-five and 26 top-ten finishes in 36 races.
Unfortunately for Visser, he wasn’t able to be at the track to celebrate with his race team because he’s recuperating from heart bypass surgery two weeks ago, the team said.
Visser has owned the race team for eight years, but this is its first NASCAR championship.
Furniture Row operates more than 330 stores in 31 states under the Sofa Mart, Oak Express, Denver Mattress and Bedroom Expressions banners. Earlier this year, the retailer opened The Showroom at Furniture Row, its first store focusing on upper-end merchandise.
