Mattress producer Gold Bond has decided to pull out of this week’s High Point Market, opting to host four private regional shows the company said will provide a more focused, personalized shopping experience for dealers.
Company officials said the last-minute decision to close its High Point showroom was made because it was unable to reach agreement with the International Home Furnishings Center on terms for an upgraded and expanded showroom.
“We have seen a significant decline in attendance by buyers at the market, and we believe our money will be better spent right now hosting our own regional events,” said Gold Bond President Robert Naboicheck. “Our regional road shows offer the great opportunity to spend quality time with our retail partners in a quieter, less hurried setting.”
Gold Bond had maintained a showroom on the sixth floor of the IHFC’s Main Wing for several years.
The shows will be held in the New Hampshire and Maine area, Upstate New York, New York/New Jersey, and Charlotte, N.C., over the next six months. Naboicheck said the company already has begun reaching out to retail customers regarding the new events.
He said he hasn’t ruled out returning to the High Point Market next spring, but wants to obtain a showroom in a higher-traffic location.
