Serta Simmons Bedding Opens New Factory in Houston

Serta Simmons Bedding, the nation’s largest mattress producer, has opened a new manufacturing plant in Houston.

The new plant, which is four times the size of the company’s previous Houston factory, will increase production capacity, and is part of the company’s recently announced plan to expand its manufacturing footprint and support increased consumer demand.

"SSB's new Houston plant is an important part of our strategy to increase manufacturing capacity," said Michael Traub, CEO of Serta Simmons Bedding. "By introducing new technology, adding headcount where necessary and expanding certain facilities, SSB intends to position itself to meet increased demand from customers across North America."

He said the plant has about 100 employees and is producing more than 1,000 mattresses per day. The products are shipped throughout the southwestern United States, and orders generally are fulfilled in less than 72 hours.

According to Traub, the company also plans to open factories in Seattle, Moreno Valley, Calif., and Windsor Locks, Conn. In addition, SSB will move to a new corporate headquarters in the Atlanta suburb of Doraville, Ga., by early 2019, consolidating existing Serta and Simmons facilities in the Chicago and Atlanta areas into a single location.
