Miskelly Furniture is making its first foray outside its home market of Jackson, Miss., with plans to open a 70,000 square-foot store next year in Hattiesburg, Miss.
The retailer said the new location will be a former Gander Mountain store in Westover Crossing Shopping Center. It will be the seventh store in the family-owned chain, and its second largest location.
“Hattiesburg has a vibrant economy, strong in healthcare and military with a great university. Miskelly has successfully served the area for many years,” said Oscar Miskelly, who owns the company along with brothers Chip and Tommy Miskelly. “With this addition, we can continue to provide quality furniture and bedding, but the location will be much more convenient for our customers in and around the Hub City.”
The retailer initially opened its doors 39 years ago, and is now the largest furniture and bedding retailer in Mississippi. Once the Hattiesburg store is opened early next year, the company will have about 570,000 square feet of retail space.
Key vendors include Tempur-Pedic, Sealy, Ashley, Bernhardt and Flexsteel.
The company said new store will be serviced from Miskelly’s distribution center in Pearl, Miss., enabling the retailer to continue to ship products quickly to consumers.
“Many stores require one to two weeks after the order is placed because the product is not onsite,” said Oscar Miskelly. “Our warehouse is one of the largest in the Southeast, which means we have the inventory to fill most orders that day.”
