Kickoff Speaker, Panelists Changed for Design Viewpoint Series

The High Point Market Authority and the American Society of Interior Designers announced changes to some of the panels and speakers for the Design Viewpoint Series during next week’s High Point Market, including a new speaker for the kickoff session.

The kickoff session, which begins at noon on Saturday, Oct. 14, will now feature Margaret Russell, honorary dean at the School of Building Arts at the Savannah College of Art and Design and editor-in-chief of Galerie.

Russell is replacing SCAD founder and President Paula Wallace, who will be unable to attend.

Market Authority officials said the kickoff session topic, “Transformative Design: The Power of Design and Preservation to Reshape Communities,” will remain the same. Russell will speak on SCAD’s unique approach to adaptive reuse and interior design, which has earned honors from UNESCO and the AIA, among others, and has helped transform SCAD into one of the world's preeminent universities in art and design education.

In addition, two panelists have been added to the 12 noon session on Monday, Oct. 16. Jorge Arango, owner of Not Necessarily Martha, Inc. and an interior design writer, editor, and stylist for 30 years, and Stacy Kunstel, homes editor for New England Home, regional editor for Traditional Home and Better Homes and Gardens, and co-founder of Dunes and Duchess, will both join the panel.

Jason Oliver Nixon and John Loecke of Madcap Cottage will also participle in the panel discussion, moderated by Christine Abbate of Novita PR.

Titled, “Getting Your Stories Published… Strategies for a Digital Age,” this session will focus on strategies and insider tips for getting your projects and stories published in today’s ever-expanding range of print and digital outlets.

Additionally, a bonus session has been added to the schedule for 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, in the Surya showroom, Showplace 4100). It will feature Denise McGaha, former Style Spotter and owner of Denise McGaha Interiors.

In her presentation, “How to Deliver Luxury Projects in Under 90 Days.” McGaha will share how she developed her trademarked “Designing with a Deadline” business process and how it changed her design business. She will share tips on how to implement project management tools, how to work with showrooms efficiently, and how to attract the type of clients you want.

All Design Viewpoint Series sessions, with the exception of the bonus session, will take place in the High Point Theatre, located in the Transportation Terminal. Each offers 0.1 IDCEC-approved continuing education unit (CEU) and is open to all High Point Market attendees. The full series schedule can be found at www.highpointmarket.org/event/design-viewpoints-series.
