Classic Gallery Founder Charlie Greene Dies at 78

Charles "Charlie" Greene, the former owner of upholstery producer Classic Gallery who was active in the furniture industry for more than 40 years, died this week at age 78.
Greene was born in Orange, N.J., and moved to High Point, N.C. in 1966 to take a job with a furniture manufacturer. Six years later, he founded Classic Gallery, and remained at the helm of the upholstery manufacturer until he sold the company in 2007.
He was active in the furniture industry, serving on the board of directors for the American Society of Interior Designers, the American Furniture Manufacturers Association (now American Home Furnishings Alliance), the Upholstered Furniture Action Council, the Furniture Library, and the Furniture Discovery Center. He also served as chairman of the North Carolina furniture export council.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Joyner Greene, who worked alongside him at Classic Gallery and also was active in the furniture industry.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in High Point. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17 at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
