Target Recalls 175,000 Dressers Due to Tip-Over Hazard

Target has recalled about 175,000 four-drawer dressers from its Room Essentials collection that present a tip-over or entrapment hazard to children.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission warned consumers to immediately stop using the dressers if they aren't anchored to a wall and move them to an area not accessible to children.

Consumers should then return the product to any Target store for full refund, the CPSC said.

The agency said it has received 12 reports of the dressers tipping over or collapsing, including one that tipped onto two 3-year-old children. No injuries have been reported, however.

The dressers, which were made in Denmark, were sold exclusively at Target stores and Target.com between January 2013 and April 2016. In addition to the 175,000 units sold in the U.S., the CPSC said about 3,000 were sold in Canada.

The dressers were sold in three colors and the recall involves model numbers 249-05-0103 (black), 249-05-0106 (espresso), and 249-05-0109 (maple). The model number is printed on the product's packaging.

Consumers may contact Target at 800-440-0680 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. CT daily or online at www.Target.com and click on “Recalls” at the bottom of the page, then “Furniture” for more information. Information also is available on the “Product Recalls” tab on www.Facebook.com/Target.
