From Home Furnishing Business

Furniture Execs Tour City of Hope Research Facilities

BDI President Lorri Kelley, a member of the national executive board of the International Home Furnishings Chapter of the City of Hope, recently joined a group of a dozen furniture industry executives who toured the City of Hope’s facilities in Southern California.

The tour, organized by the Women’s Health Initiative, gave participants a first-hand look at research being done to improve the lives of those affected by cancer and diabetes.

It marked the second year Kelley had taken part in the tour.

“Diseases like cancer and diabetes affect everyone in some way,” said Kelley. “When united, the home furnishings industry has a lot of market power and by getting behind this initiative, we can make a major impact in the lives of so many.”

She said the tour also reinforced the importance of corporate philanthropy, noting that BDI recently started shipping a pink version of its popular Bink media table. Available in limited quantities, proceeds from the table sales through the end of the year will benefit City of Hope’s breast cancer programs.
