Protect-A-Bed, a supplier of mattress protectors, sleep accessories and finished mattresses, has unveiled a bed-in-a-box mattress that the company says is bed bug-proof.
The new mattress, a 10-inch memory foam model, features a sealed mattress encasement that utilizes a protective barrier called Miracle Membrane. The company said the barrier is bed bug bite-proof and prevents liquids from penetrating the mattress while ensuring proper air flow and cooling.
"Bed bugs can be a very big problem. With their thin build, they can penetrate unprotected mattresses and set-up shop quickly,” said John Rachid, president of Protect-A-Bed. “With the introduction of this new mattress, we are stopping infestations before they start."
He said the protective barrier also prevents dust mites and other allergens such as pet dander and pollen from entering the mattress.
"We not only see this as the best way to prevent bed bugs from ever becoming a problem in many homes, but a great way to ensure healthy bedrooms in all homes," said Protect-A-Bed CEO James Bell. "We want to provide the best environment for our families, and preventative measures like a bed bug-proof mattress are essential to a healthy, happy life."
The 10 inches of memory foam includes separate layers for comfort, support and motion separation, and a gel-infused layer to prevent overheating.
The new product retails for $499 in queen size on the Protect-A-Bed website.
