Canadian Producer Marshall Mattress to Make U.S. Debut in Vegas

Marshall Mattress, a 117-year-old Canadian bedding producer whose founder developed the first pocketed coil innerspring unit, is returning to the U.S. market with the opening of a showroom at this month’s Las Vegas Market.

The company, who will be displaying its products in space B-922, said it believes the timing is right to re-enter the U.S. after an absence of more than 20 years.

“There is a lot of interest in our line,” said Eric Warner, vice president of sales and business development. “We have a number of unique features that we think will be attractive to higher-end stores.”

He said the 1,900 square-foot showroom will feature three collections that are being launched in the U.S. – the five-model Portfolio collection, the three-model Luxury line, and the five model Bespoke collection. The new models start at about $3,500 at retail in queen, and sleep sets in the Bespoke line go as high as $15,000, he said.

Warner said the company’s mattresses are hand-crafted, using a host of natural and sustainable materials. Most are two-sided models, and they all feature a pocketed coil innerspring unit, which was patented by company founder James Marshall in Canada in 1900 and in the U.S. and U.K. in 1901.

But unlike many of the pocketed coil innerspring units currently in the U.S. market, he said Marshall Mattress does not use foam encasing for its coil systems because that design does a better job of keeping the sleeper cool.

“Consumers are willing to invest in quality,” he said. “Not everyone is interested in buying something they will have to replace in three or four years.”
