After announcing its augmented reality platform earlier in June, tech giant Apple, Inc. has been granted a patent for augmented reality apps for interior design and animated movie posters, according to news source 9to5 Mac.
On June 5 Apple introduced a platform for developers to help bring high-quality AR experiences to iPhone and iPad using the built-in camera, powerful processors and motion sensors in iOS devices.
Dubbed ARKit, the platform allows developers to tap into the latest computer vision technologies to build detailed virtual content on top of real-world scenes for interactive gaming, immersive shopping experience, industrial design and more.
Just days ago, CEO of Apple Tim Cook named furniture-buying as an example of something that can be completely changed by the use of AR, saying, “We’ve talked to Ikea, and they have 3D images of their furniture line. You’re talking about changing the whole experience of how you shop for, in this case, furniture and other objects that you can place around the home.”
