The furniture industry in the United States, especially the upholstery segment, has just begun its recovery from the Great Recession and has plenty of upside potential, a leading industry analyst said Thursday.
According to a report in the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, analyst Jerry Epperson told a Mississippi economic development group the furniture industry is only in the third year of its recovery, even though the recession technically ended seven years ago.
Epperson, who works with the investment firm Mann, Armistead and Epperson, told the group the upholstery business has a modest advantage over other segments of the furniture industry because imports make up only 45% of the category. By contrast, more than 90% of metal furniture and 85% of wood furniture sold in the U.S. is imported.
