Eight, an online mattress retailer that launched a smart mattress cover last fall, said it has closed on an additional $5 million in venture capital funding, boosting the total raised from investors to $11 million.
"At Eight, we're focused on leveraging technology to bring innovation to sleep so our customers can achieve more restful nights, productive days and ultimately live healthier lives," said Matteo Franceschetti, CEO and co-founder. "This round of funding further enables us to continue to invest in personalized, data-driven sleep solutions for our customers."
The new mattress cover features the Eight Sleep Tracker, which is slipped over an existing mattress and collects biometric and environmental data in order to deliver personalized solutions for tracking and improving sleep.
The sleep tracker also is a key ingredient for the company’s smart mattress, which includes four layers of responsive and high-density foam and utilizes technology that warms each side of the bed individually, and connects to other smart home devices.
The retailer also said it is opening its first showroom this week in New York.
Investors include Yunqi Partners, Azure Capital, Y Combinator, Stanford StartX fund, Comcast Ventures, and Sinovation Ventures.
